He started to devote himself to the painting in the year 1976 and in the beginning he was strong influenced by his private studies with Prof. Jiri Patera. Thanks to his individual technique, original content and composition of the pictures, as well as his natural instinct for the harmony of colours, he soon received many invitations to group exhibitions, and was awarded a number of prizes at various competitions. The next step were his own shows mainly in Prague and from 1984 on also abroad. The positive reviews and the commercial success have made it possible for him to become a professional artist. Mr. Václav Benedikt is today a renowned painter with fifty individual and uncountable group exhibitions. Among other things he was invited to such occasions as La Jeune Peinture 93 (Le Grand Palais, Paris), International Print Trienniale 94 (Cracow, Poland) or International Print Show (Dublin, Ireland). His works are represented in private as well as public collections in 21 countries on four continents for example in France, United Kingdom, USA, Japan, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, South Korea, Libya. The exhibits of Mr. Václav Benedikt are decorating such places as the representative premises of Hypo-Bank, SULZER Medica or the international hotels like Renaissance and Mövenpick in Prague. Since 1993 he is cooperating with the after him named foundation the Gallery Benedikt in Thal, Switzerland. The success of Mr. Václav Benedikt was neither achieved by following momentary trends in the art design nor by being original at all costs. In his oil paintings and graphic arts can be feeled the influence of modernist art especially the lyrical abstraction and the analytical painting. The combination of these approaches with those of the post war Czech landscape painting has helped him to create a totally new concept of the pictures evoking in the audience a certain tension by its content - the transition of fragmented figures and landscape and impression by the magical harmony of colours. The following quotation of Marcel Proust helps further to understand the art and work of Mr. Václav Benedikt: "If a good painter is painting a rose, it will become a new kind and simultaneously as an imaginative gardener he is enriching the species of flowers." To an interested audience Mr. Václav Benedikt opens a completely new world of variations, which can be interpreted according to the personal mood and experince. To the most used words by reviewers of Mr. Václav Benedikt's works like motion, event, excitement and colour must be added - experience. Dr. phil.
